A Word to Self-Published Authors

Posted on March 30, 2010 by Ms. Marcie

Self-published authors

You cannot judge a book by its cover, but it’s truly disappointing when you are looking forward to reading a book, and it’s filled with grammatical errors.

One book I wanted to enjoy had a beautiful glossy cover and enticing title.  Unfortunately, I could not get pass the first page.  It was horrible! As much as I wanted to move on, I just couldn’t.  So, to anyone planning to self-publish a book, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pay an editor.  It will be well worth it.

The second book I was advised to purchase is in no logical order.  I’m trying to read it now.  It would be more pleasurable if the flow was better.  To inspiring self-published authors, have a couple people to critique your flow prior to publishing.

No matter how good a book looks on the outside, quality beats quantity any day.  A book will lose its essence very quickly if the content does not meet expectations.

And I might add, that they need to have someone look at their work who is “professionally” qualified.

Not a college student who’s in the family, or the cleaning lady on their job, or the friend from church.
Everything “free” is not of true value.

Thank you for that a bit of knowledge. Qualifications are very important and you truly do get what you pay for. So, start saving as soon as you THINK you want to write a book.
