Here are my life lessons for July 2010. I’m just a little behind with this one.
- Don’t allow others to define you. If you know who you are, what “they” say don’t matter
- Know your worth. If you don’t value yourself and your knowledge, no one else will
- If you’re facing opposition, you’re working your purpose. At each new level you enter, you face a new devil
- Let the truth be your guide. If you have the truth on your side, you need not argue against nonsense.
- Be selective about whose advice you take. Listen to everybody but use wisdom in what to adhere to
- Always take the time to be a blessing to others – in word or deed
- It’s OK to use the people you know for what you need as long as you are willing to return the favor
- A degree does not guarantee class or common sense
- People are going to talk about you whether you are doing something or not
- No matter how nice you try to be, everyone will not be nice to you
Good lessons, “Grasshopper”. 🙂
And the good thing is that you’re never too old to embrace and implement them!
Though I don’t necessarily believe that everybody who does not “agree” with where you are going is to be discounted in their perspective, or viewed as a “hater”.
Sometimes they simply see weaknesses that we don’t have the objectivity to see.
Remember American Idol? 🙂
I agree with #s 5,6,9, 10. And also would like to add that the Bible states, “The wise seek counsel.” I can’t remember where…I think in Proverbs.
Good luck in moving forward!
Jennifer, thanks for your insights. There are so many lessons learned on this journey of success. These are just a few; there are more to come!
Hi Marcie- I totally agree with em all! Especially #1, seems, I’ve been fighting this one for myself for like forever:)
Keep-a-going!
Clara.
P.S. Those are the exact words of advice given to me by Gwendolyn Brooks & I love her definitive way with words!
Clara, thanks for stopping through and sharing your thoughts. I am honored to be on the same plane with Ms. Brooks. And it’s great to have you as a colleague.
