The Independent Bulletin Newspaper is one of the few community newspapers remaining in Chicago community. It provides a wealth of information on people, events, health concerns, political issues, and other topics relevant to African American communities. There is also a cartoon, The Hip Hop Journal, and a poetry corner. And there is Black History information published year round. How great is that!
I write this as a contributing writer and reader of the newspaper. I am also writing this because I have much respect for Hurley Green, the Everything (no one title fits), and he has helped me tremendously in my writer career. In fact, he got me started when I submitted my assumed name in his paper.
So, I want to extend much love to Hurley Green and the Independent Bulletin Newspaper.
Hurley Green is a tremendous asset to the world of journalism. He is the true embodiment of dedication, professionalism, and hard work. The Independent Bulletin Newspaper speaks for itself.
Thanks Marcie for this opportunity for I, too, must send a shout out to Hurley Green and The Independent Bulletin.
Back in 2003, when I was working to charter a Toastmasters club in the Greater Ashburn community here in Chicago, Hurley was kind enough to do an article about my efforts to build a Toastmasters club in the community to help people improve their communication & leadership skills as well as he made sure our meeting dates were posted in the community calendar listing section of the newspaper.
I have kept the clippling of the article we received from The Independent Bulletin on the wall in our meeting place at the Wrightwood-Ashburn Public Library and I know that from Hurley’s support, The Independent Bulletin article about us, and the calendar listings of our club meetings, my club, the Wrightwood-Ashburn Overcomers (WAO) Toastmasters club, #771880, would not be a 25-member club today.
I thank Hurley for his support and guidance on helping me to promote my Toastmasters club back then because it has lead to our continued growing success today.

From PR Expert Melody McDowell:
Independent Bulletin has a long tradition in Chicago…
dating back to the award-winning Hurley Green, Sr.
We’re lucky the newspaper remains viable.
So often we know people by face and deed… making the pleasure of meeting them that much more meaningful. I have had this pleasure with Hurley, and appreciate the step up to a higher level of business respect. When I first saw the Independent Bulletin I thought it was a little paper. Over the months since I’ve been reading it, I now see its bigger vision in being a source for more than the ‘loco’ news. The blend of what’s happening now, and what happened then, gives me a sense of informed pride that has been helpful to me in several conversations.
Marcie, I think it’s great that you’ve devoted this segment to Hurley Green for how he has devoted himself to being “Everything.” Thanks Hurley.

In an age when so many newspapers don’t seem to care about customer service any more, The Bulletin does everything they claim they do, with a smile. I am one satisfied customer, and will continue to be for years to come. Thank you Mr. Hurley.
