So, you say want to write a book and it’s not done. Why? What’s holding you back from completing the book that has been placed in you? Check out the top 3 reasons I discovered why your book isn’t written.
1. Excuses
“I don’t have time” and “I can’t write” are the two main excuses I hear from people who claim to want to write books. Please allow me to help you rid yourself of those excuses.
For one week, document how much time you spend on activities that take away from your productivity – watching TV, talking on the telephone, hanging on the computer and spending time on social media sites. If any of these activities take away at least 10 minutes from other things you could be doing, then you DO have time to write. The question then becomes – what do you plan to do about it?
As for not being able to write. Newsflash: almost everybody can write. You may not be able to write well, but if you can put pen to paper and create a sentence that has a subject and verb, then you CAN write. If you are concerned about getting things right, you will never complete your book. If you concern yourself with starting the book, and then actually do it, then you are much closer to completion.
As written in Brian Tracy’s book, Goals: How to Get Everything you Want – Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible – “Stop making excuses and start making progress.”
2. Fear
Fear is the biggest culprit of non-productivity in all aspect of our lives. That is why I don’t have my first million yet. And that is why your book is not yet written. You have probably come up with a bunch of excuses because you are afraid to move forward.
Allow me to share my revelation about not having my first million (Still working on getting on Forbe’s “Richest People” list). I am upset about it. But I’m mad at myself more than anything because when I look back, I cannot tell you what I was afraid of. I don’t know if it was success or failure. All I know is – whatever I was afraid of, I could not see it. Therefore, it did not exist. So, I was afraid of something that wasn’t there. That’s a total “DUH!” moment.
Don’t allow your masterpiece to continue to be placed on hold because of fear of something you cannot see. You have a 50/50 chance of success. You have to choose which half you want.
3. Procrastination
If the spirit of procrastination is upon you, shake it off really quickly! If you haven’t started your book because you “just haven’t,” there’s a probability that you won’t. You will look back over your goals later this year, maybe a couple years from now, and your book still won’t be started. Therefore, I challenge you to kick procrastination to the curb and start on making your dreams of a completed book a reality.
