When people picture writers, whether they’re copywriters or fiction writers, they usually imagine people who spend most of the day holed up in their rooms, only leaving their desk to get more coffee, and rarely speaking to anyone. Writing is a lonely profession.
However, you need to get out of the house and meet people. All professionals can benefit from networking, including writers. Building links with other people in the industry – agents, clients, and, yes, other writers – should always be on your to-do list.
5. Gain technical skills
Writers like to control their content. However, many writers don’t have the technical skills or expertise to build a good website without assistance. Developing a site requires knowledge of design, SEO, content creation and more.
If you invest in learning basic web development, you can take the reins of your website and save a bunch of money. Skills in web development, design and marketing will also help you land some very lucrative clients!
