Sistah’s Place Magazine is the brainchild of writer, author and my girl, Letrise Carter. I’ve been the senior writer for this publication since March 2019. I typically write the cover stories and author or book spotlights in each edition. So, yes, I wrote the articles about all of the amazing people on the covers above.
In this role, I have met some wonderful people and have learned about things I have never seriously thought about, including sexual harassment in government. Some of the articles stretched my writing and creativity abilities because I struggled to find original angles for the stories. Still, others were just fun because of the personalities and energy of the interviewees.
While it would be nice if you read all of the publications, I want to draw your attention this month’s publication for three reasons. First, Letrise shares her emotional journey through two bouts of breast cancer. Talk about surviving. Second, we are spotlighting centurion Granny Ida. I have never interviewed anyone who has reached 100 years old before, and it was truly an honor to do so. And third, I’m really curious about the reader’s thoughts on the book spotlight, Let’s Get Married & Do Everything Except Make it Last: A Heart-to-Heart with Men on Loving and Leading by Adrian Carter.
