Yesterday, Reverend Willie Taplin Barrow left this earthly life to live in her heavenly home. The “Little Warrior”, as she was affectionately known, died at the age of 90.
She was a member of Vernon Park Church of God and she always had a word of of wisdom when I passed. It was pretty cool that we were short; I could look her in the eye.
Dr. Barrow greeted and treated everyone the same and often made you feel special by asking about you. It was never about her.
When she entered a room, she was heard before she was seen. In addition to be a shorty, people hovered around her to get her attention, either to greet her or for knowledge.
I won’t go into her background or her accolades; the news media got that.
I will, however, have a happy heart knowing that I had a chance to connect with this amazing black woman in history while she was here.
