Rant #1 – No Workie for Free
Someone referred me for a project. The person called and said that I was highly recommended, which is great. But when we started talking money, he said that there was no budget. He’s doing what he can to make his dreams come true but one immediate dream of mine is not to be homeless. Uh, I cannot pay my bills on goodwill.
Rant #2 – Stop Adding Me to E-Mail Lists Without My Permission!
How many of you feel the same way? I mean really!
I sent a public official a picture I took of her at a community event and I got an e-mail from her. I had been added to her list without my permission! That is so cool. Actually, that happened two other times right before that.
That is sooooooo annoying. It doesn’t take much to request permission. Hope they didn’t get offended when they saw that I unsubscribed from their list that I didn’t subscribe to in the first place.
Rant #3 – Dude, who are you?
I am conducting research on Chicago roller skating history and black roller skating in Chicago. This dude ran across my site, Real Skate Stories, and called me about a rink where he used to be a skate guard. We chatted for a while and I told him a bit about my progress. He then went for the gusto.
Dude: If I help you with your project, will you break me off a little something?”
Translation: How much will I get if I help you.
Marcie: What do you want?
Dude: I don’t know.
How are you begging and don’t know what you want? Besides, who are you? AND, you couldn’t possibly have as much information as I have because I have support from some of the early skaters. I mean, people who roller skated at the first roller rink where black people were able to skate indoors. AND I found the first roller rink in Chicago.
So, dude, what can you give me that I don’t already have? Better yet, what can you give me that I cannot get from the people who are already helping me?
Those are just a few of my rants. There may be more as I try to figure out what to post for the rest of this month for NaBloPoMo.
Just wanted to share. Thanks for reading!
