Book Recommendation: “Ode To Toni Morrison” by Jennifer Brown Banks

Posted on March 27, 2022 by Ms. Marcie

Ode to Toni Morrison by Jennifer Brown Banks

I have not yet read “Ode to Toni Morrison (and Collected Poems)” by Jennifer Brown Banks, but my high regard for her personally and professionally is the basis of this book recommendation.

When I decided to embark upon a freelance writing career, Jennifer was the only freelance writer I knew. She was (and still is) generous with her time and resources. The coolest thing she’s done for me was publish an article I wrote, “Desperate Women…Not Just on TV” in Mahogany Magazine, a publication for which she was the editor. That was my first “real” published work.

Seeing my name in writing not only boosted my self-confidence; it also served as validation that I was on the right path to my purpose.

When Jennifer and I first connected, she was a writer and editor. Today, she’s a multi-published author, award-winning blogger and coach.

Jennifer hears poetry, which is why she founded Poets United to Advance the Arts in 1994 and wrote seven books of poetry. “Ode to Toni Morrison,” her newest project, honors the literary legend and includes additional poems she’s written. According to Jennifer, “It’s great reading material on an array of fun, sensuous, timely, thought-provoking themes.”

If you enjoy poetry or want to gift a book of poetry to individuals or book club members, purchase “Ode to Toni Morrison” from Amazon. If poetry is not your flavor, consider supporting a Black female author and poet just because.

To learn more about Jennifer and get a feel for her writing talents, visit her award-winning blog, Pen and Prosper, and check out Poets United to Advance the Arts.

    Marcie,

What a wonderful surprise and personal endorsement. Thank you so much!
    Your words made my day.
Are you available to become my new publicist? 🙂

It was a pleasure, Jennifer. The very least I can is do is spread the word about your newest accomplishment. Proud of you! Being a publicist is not on my list of goals; however, I’ll let you know if anything changes.
