Someone suggested I go back to school to get a PhD. Seriously? To study what? Better yet – for what??? He explained that I could get paid while I learn. Ok, these are my thoughts to that suggestion.
Honestly, the first thing that came to mind was, “Blow it.” I am not opposed to going back to school, but I am opposed to paying for another degree. And, for what? I’m a gifted writer. I can always take classes to better my skills. I don’t need a degree to validate me or my abilities.
Second, why would I pay thousands of dollars to get a few dollars back AND lose my freedom on a degree I may not use? And have you seen the unemployment rate of people with degrees these days? Besides, when you are in school, everything you do revolve around classes, homework and papers. A few measly dollars is so not worth it.
Third, it is my understanding that people with PhDs teach and research. Well, I’ll be ramping up my writing and blogging trainings, and I’m researching roller skating history for my book. All without a PhD. And soon, I will get paid more to train in one month than a teacher or researcher earns in a whole year.
So, please tell me, in your infinite wisdom, why should I get a PhD?
