My friend, Jackie Rogers, has an amazing podcast, Welfare Doesn’t Work – War on Welfare, that everyone must listen to. The most memorable statement I remember from the first episode I listened to is “welfare as we never should have known it.”
Honestly, have you seriously thought about how the welfare system works? Do you know ALL the benefits recipients receive and who’s funding them? What about the corporations profiting from providing services? Who are the major players and losers in this game?
You will learn all of that and more on the Welfare Doesn’t Work podcast. Jackie details thought-provoking information in less than ten minutes in a snarky and entertaining manner.
In addition to highlighting the different programs and why they don’t work, she shares how everyone gets rich from welfare programs except the struggling taxpayers that are involuntarily “sponsoring” people who don’t work and are living better than them.
For example, last year, Crain’s Chicago Business broke a story about CHA (Chicago Housing Authority) subsidizing rents of up to $2,500 per month for low-income residents to live in expensive apartments in one of Chicago’s most expensive neighborhoods. I’m sure these people are eating well (for free), too.
While I know residents who live in the building are upset about paying market rate while these people are paying close to nothing, middle class tax payers should be pissed. Many of us are still recovering from the recession and we sometimes have to forego groceries because we have to live.
I digressed.
Although Welfare Doesn’t Work is an expression of Jackie’s personal thoughts and feelings on this subject, everyone should listen to it to get more insight into how America’s welfare really (doesn’t) work.
I am almost certain Jackie would get tons of sponsors if more people knew about it, especially from politicians and other anti-welfare system advocates.
So, let’s help the Welfare Doesn’t Work – War on Welfare podcast “blow up” so it can reach a wider audience. Hop on over to the The Libsyn Network or Stitcher to listen to all of the episodes in her podcasts and be sure to subscribe to get updates as they are uploaded every other week.
