I’m still heart broken about Troy Davis, the man that was executed last Wednesday, September 21, 2011, EVEN though seven of the nine witnesses recanted their stories and no weapon was found. I pretty much live blogged the entire Democracy Now taping of his final hours while watching Twitter streams. The support was overwhelming.
What really freaked me out, though, was the Troy Davis Facebook page. It was there as long as he was alive, but as soon as he died, so did the page.
A few people on Twitter compared Davis’ trial to Casey Anthony. His execution was termed a “legal lynching.” There were lots of stars in Hollywood tweeting their support. It was amazing.Ok, one particular Tweet was rather funny to me. It said something like, “Dear Georgia, we’ll give you Casey Anthony for Troy Davis. Sincerely, Florida.” That was one of the best ones.
This execution came at a time that was really emotional for me because I had spoken on the Social Media & Social Activism panel for Social Media Week Chicago, and Davis was one of the subjects I mentioned. And, there are so many others like him now. They are either on death row waiting for their execution, they are in jail awaiting trial, or they are the people going on about their business that could fall victim at any time.
Anyway, I’m done here. Just wanted to share my thoughts. No justice, no peace!
How do you feel about the executive of Troy Davis?
