Yes, I feel like a sucker. Let me tell you why.
I went grocery shopping today and ginger ale was $1.28 for a 2 liter. I put 2 of them into my cart because I feel frappe in my near future. When I got to the checkout, the cashier said, “You can get these for .88 if you buy two more.” I agreed. So, I paid .88 cents for 4 ginger ales. That .40 cents discount sounded real good, especially when you saved it four times.
Was it a good deal? Let’s think about this. I paid $1.76 to save $1.20.
That’s not the first time I’ve felt this way.
New York and Co. is good for that. They often have deals to “buy 1 and get 1 half off.’ Let’s say a shirt is $20. You have to pay $30.00 to save $10.00. And you probably don’t need the second shirt. But because that sounded like a great deal, you paid for two shirts. I have been suckered by these deals and depending on how cute the items are, I may be again.
The best ones yet are the deals by electronic stores. Many times they give you bundled deals. You may buy a digital camera and get an extra storage card and camera case. The price may be $200. The extra stuff looks good, but it’s just not worth it. In most cases the camera may be $99. You can get a nice case for $20 or less and a storage card for $15 or less depending on the amount of memory. So, you could have saved at least $50 if you had conducted research. I am please to note that I have never been suckered like this. I do research.
What are some shopping situations in which you’ve been suckered…or at least felt like it?
