The Gobble Doggs, a black-owned business that has been serving gourmet turkey hot dogs since 2012, is awarding scholarships to African-American graduating high school seniors who are innovative, forward-thinking and have a passion for business and entrepreneurship.
Whether a student opts to attend a college or university, trade/vocational school and/or has or wants to start a business, the Gobble Doggs scholarship can be used for educational support, developing a business concept or advancing an existing business.
Eligibility Requirements:
- An African American graduating high school senior
- Enrolled in a high school or homeschooled in Cook, Kane, DuPage, Grundy, Kendall, Lake and Will County
- Has a cumulative grade point average of “C” or higher
Documents to Submit:
- Gobble Doggs Scholarship application
- Clear copy of their Illinois State ID or driver’s license
- Official copy of grade transcripts
- Official college enrollment verification form or acceptance letter on school letterhead, if attending college or trade school.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation. Recommendations can be from a former or current teacher, dean, principal, counselor, club/organization leader or employer.
- Student resume
Essays to Submit:
- The personal essay should that includes the following:
- Tell us who you are. (Be creative)
- How are you involved in the community?
- Why should you be considered for this scholarship
- How would you use the awarded funds, i.e. tuition, start your business, fund and existing business, obtain certifications, etc.?
The personal essay should be no longer than 500 words, double-spaced and in an Arial or Times New Roman font.
- The scholarship essay should answer the following questions:
- What characteristics do you believe successful entrepreneurs exhibit and why did you choose these characteristics?
- Who is your favorite entrepreneur and why?
- Why would you make a great entrepreneur or business leader (if you’re a current business owner, what makes you a great entrepreneur or business leader)?
The scholarship essay should be between 500 to 1,000 words, double-spaced and in an Arial or Times New Roman font.
