There is a saying that you should work your strengths and hire your weaknesses. And Fiverr, a marketplace full of vendors with skills to help you with whatever you need, lets you do this at rates starting at $5.
This site is a huge blessings for people like me: the price of my dreams exceeds my cash flow.
I have hired people to create checklists, business card designs, t-shirt designs, flyers, logos, press releases, PowerPoint presentations, Photoshop projects and infographics. I also hired someone to download a bunch of PDF files for me. Clearly, Fiverr is my pimp.
With that said, I’m going share my review of the site and recommendations of contractors that keep me returning.
My Fiverr Review
The Coolness of Fiverr
- You can find virtually any service you need and some you may not have considered.
- Most service rates are affordable.
- When you work with someone you click with, you continue to use them which is a win-win.
- Most contractors finish your projects in the time they say they will.
- You can cancel the service if you’re not satisfied with any aspect of the project.
- You can view people’s work and communicate with them before starting a project.
- You can get a custom quote for a project if you want extra or different.
The Not-So-Coolness of Fiverr
- Many services don’t start at $5 anymore. You’ll find this rate with new contractors or for very basic services.
- Some people don’t understand English which hinders communications for English-speaking customers.
- Like any other project, you have to do your research. Everyone has their own style and way of doing things so you have to pick the contractor that best fits your needs.
- If someone cancels your project, you don’t get your money back, you get a credit. This is not totally bad; it’s annoying.
Overall, it’s a great service and I’ve had a mostly good experiences over the years. These experiences were made possible by the following professionals that have helped me tremendously. They are all highly recommended.
My Fiverr Recommendations
Amazayaz is the best. In addition to developing the word cloud of this roller skate created with the names of places where black people roller skated in Chicago, he created t-shirt designs for my skate t-shirt even though this was not one of his service offerings. I truly appreciate him working with me to bring my vision to life.
Here’s another cool thing about Amaz. He will re-type your request to make sure he understands what you want so he can deliver what you want.
Graphics_buddy created my workshop flyer and the postcard and tickets for my roller skating event, How We Roller: Black Roller Skating History in Chicago. He keeps his promise to deliver within 24 hours.
Ukgraphics123 made the logo for my roller skating event. We had some hiccups because of me. But after I got myself together, it was smooth sailing from there.
Kreativedezigns specializes in infographics. She made my Social Media Explained in Writing infographic in less than 24 hours. The completion of this project was SUPER quick. Here’s why: I clearly explained what I wanted. Also, I sent an example along with the content. I think there were two small edits and we were done.
Logoflow did an amazing job on the logo and images for my roller skate site, Real Skate Stories. His patience with me was amazing. I only had an idea of what I wanted but after he created images, the vision began to crystallize.
Anngeo downloaded at least a thousand PDFs for me in a short period of time. She saved me a TON of time, which was worth the investment. This was a custom order so don’t go to her page thinking you’re going to get a lot of work for little money.
Here are five keys to successfully working with Fiverr contractors:
- Know what you want. You can’t expect people to bring your vision to life if you don’t really know.
- Clearly explain what you want. Many of the people you’ll be working with speak English but you don’t know how well they speak and understand it.
- Send them all information they need to complete your project. This includes images, content, dates, times, locations, colors – everything. They are only going to do what you tell them to do.
- Respond to them as soon as possible. This is a fault of mine because I usually respond when I access my email. However, you can download the Fiverr app for a quicker, mobile experience.
- Give a tip if can afford it. There is an option to tip contractors after the project is completed. The first amount that appears is $5 but you can send a custom amount.
I recommend giving tips for two reasons. First, to show your appreciation for their service. And second, they will be happy to work with you again.
That wraps up my review and recommendations of Fiverr.
