When people ask you what your blog is about, what do you say?
For a long time, I was blabbering like Ralph Kramden from the Honeymooners. “Uh, I have five blogs and they are about…” Then I’d start listing them without saying much about the sites. Wait a minute. That’s not true. The only two sites I could explain in (not-so-good) detail were Marcie Writes and Shorty.
After pondering about what my sites are about, this is what I came up with.
Marcie Writes | My personal writing site where I share information on writing, blogging and my other interests. |
The Write Design Company | My business site where I share my business challenges and other business topics. |
Shorty: Your Chicago South Side Resource | My community site where I provide resources on the South Side of Chicago. |
Real Skate Stories | My research site where people can leave their roller skating memories. |
Overcoming Blogger’s Block | My book site where I share tips, tools and resources on how to overcome blogger’s block. |
But there are two things missing: my audience for the sites and how I serve them.
So, who’s my audience?
Marcie Writes | Adult readers, writers and independent publishers |
The Write Design Company | Business owners |
Shorty: Your Chicago South Side Resource | Chicago South Siders and businesses interested in serving this population |
Real Skate Stories | People who used to and still do roller skate on quad skates |
Overcoming Blogger’s Block | Bloggers and digital journalists that want to get unstuck on their creative journey |
How do I serve my audiences?
Marcie Writes | Provide tips, tools and resources for literary success and help promote my fellow literary pals |
The Write Design Company | Offer a platform to discuss entrepreneurial successes and challenges |
Shorty: Your Chicago South Side Resource | Help promote people, places, events and resources on the South Side of Chicago |
Real Skate Stories | Provide a platform to share roller skating memories |
Overcoming Blogger’s Block | Share tips, tools and resources to help blogger kick-start or continue their creative flow |
Now that I have this information, it’s time for me to pull it all together and create some outstanding elevator pitches.
I just wanted to share this because I’m about to move from hobby to business blogging, and I have to be able to explain what I do, who I serve and how I serve them in 30 seconds or less.
So, how do you describe your blog?
Post your description in the comment section below to help me and my audience getting a better understanding of how to do this. Thanks for your help.
