Unlike resumes, I only have one cover letter frustration: knowing whether I need one or not.
A few years ago, job seekers had to send one with their resumes. Today…well, I don’t know.
Cover Letter Frustration
Some career experts swear by cover letters, while others tell you not to bother. Then there are the reports that let you know that these document aren’t being read. Still, some applicant tracking systems will not let you move forward without attaching one.
So, what’s a frustrated job seeker to do?
Cover Letter Solution
Here are my thoughts based on internet research and LinkedIn articles. Compose a general cover letter highlighting your skills and accomplishments for each type of position for which you’re applying. Include keywords related to the industry and position. Be ready to customize it with each position.
After it’s completed, ask a couple HR professionals or recruiters for feedback. You will get differing opinions. Just say thank you and revise it as you see fit.
That’s my only cover letter frustration.
