Bloggers have become more popular over the years and are growing into brands. Some are known by their own names or the names of their sites; by the topics or missions of their sites; or by their level of online influence.
Whether you are new to blogging or have been doing it for years, you should build your brand. Here are a few questions you need to answer:
- What do you want to be known for and by whom?
- Which words and images will help you stand out from the crowd and be remembered?
- Which strategies are you going to use to promote your name, blog and content?
To help you extend the reach of your content, credibility and influence, here are five personal branding tools that should be included in your blogger toolbox.
Branding Tools for Bloggers
Blog
This may sound obvious but bloggers should have their own blog. Some people guest blog, blog for hire, or ghost blog but don’t have an online home of their own. If you do any form of blogging, you should have your own site which can serve as a website, blog and portfolio.
Blogger Bio
You should have a blogger bio on the About page on your blog. This is one of the first pages people read when visiting a new site.
Tell your readers why you started your blog; share a few personal details about yourself, family, hobbies and interests; and what your site is about. Keep it short but detailed.
Blog Media Kit
A blog media kit contains stats and facts about your site and its reach. At a minimum, it should include the title and mission of your site; audience demographics; online reach; services you provide; advertising rates; and contact information.
This tool should be sent to brands and advertisers that you want to partner with. Or, you can post it on a media page on your site.
Newsletters
Newsletters are a great tool to keep in touch with people who want to hear from you. In addition to sending your latest blog post, let readers know what you’re doing and provide resources they can use to achieve their goals.
Social Networks
Many bloggers have profiles on social media networks and use different platforms and methods to connect with their target audiences.
There are several things you need to do to expand your reach on social media. First, go to platforms where your target audience is. Second, create a profile that includes your name, a brief bio and website address. Third, be social. And lastly, boost your brand by sharing your blog posts and newsletters; participating in groups and chats; and connecting with and promoting others.
To really amplify your reach, develop relationships with people who have an engaged and active following and promote the content of others.
