The Writing Life of Marcie Hill: Marcie’s Lessons – July 2010

Posted on September 7, 2010 by Ms. Marcie

Life 101

Here are my life lessons for July 2010.  I’m just a little behind with this one.

  1. Don’t allow others to define you.  If you know who you are, what “they” say don’t matter
  2. Know your worth.  If you don’t value yourself and your knowledge, no one else will
  3. If you’re facing opposition, you’re working your purpose.  At each new level you enter, you face a new devil
  4. Let the truth be your guide.  If you have the truth on your side, you need not argue against nonsense.
  5. Be selective about whose advice you take.  Listen to everybody but use wisdom in what to adhere to
  6. Always take the time to be a blessing to others – in word or deed
  7. It’s OK to use the people you know for what you need as long as you are willing to return the favor
  8. A degree does not guarantee class or common sense
  9. People are going to talk about you whether you are doing something or not
  10. No matter how nice you try to be, everyone will not be nice to you

    Good lessons, “Grasshopper”. 🙂

And the good thing is that you’re never too old to embrace and implement them!

Though I don’t necessarily believe that everybody who does not “agree” with where you are going is to be discounted in their perspective, or viewed as a “hater”.

Sometimes they simply see weaknesses that we don’t have the objectivity to see.

    Remember American Idol? 🙂
I agree with #s 5,6,9, 10. And also would like to add that the Bible states, “The wise seek counsel.” I can’t remember where…I think in Proverbs.

    Good luck in moving forward!

Hi Marcie- I totally agree with em all! Especially #1, seems, I’ve been fighting this one for myself for like forever:)

    Keep-a-going!

    Clara.

P.S. Those are the exact words of advice given to me by Gwendolyn Brooks & I love her definitive way with words!

Clara, thanks for stopping through and sharing your thoughts. I am honored to be on the same plane with Ms. Brooks. And it’s great to have you as a colleague.
