I had lunch with someone close to me recently, and I was sharing dreams that had grown from ideas I have and projects I’m working on. I’m so excited! As much as I would like to have all of them going right now, it’s not even smart to try to do anything more right now.
So, I thanked “them” for lunch and received this as part of the response.
“I can’t see you have long term successes until you focus on one thing. Right now you are holding bubbles.”
I was disappointed when I read this, but I reminded myself that that is why I shouldn’t share my dreams with others. Anyone who knows me know that writing and blogging are my first loves. They also know that both are being done through The Write Design Company and Shorty: Your Chicago South Side Resource. However, what they don’t know is that Shorty will help me grow The Write Design Company and while that’s happening Shorty will also grow.
Also, I realized that the person I was sharing with really doesn’t understand the full extent of what I do. They have an idea, but they didn’t totally get it. Such is life.
I just wanted to share this story as a reminder as to why you shouldn’t share your dreams with others. Of course, that doesn’t apply to everyone. Just be mindful of those you do decide to share them with.
I wish you all the best as you work to attain the desires that God placed on your heart. And stay away from haters and naysayers.
Afraid I’d have to disagree with you on this one, “Grasshopper”. 🙂
Most times you should share your dreams. When doing so, it makes them even more authentic and powerful, as you release them into the universe and give them real wings.
Also, let’s face it—some folks are way off base in what they believe they can achieve, and a “real friend” will provide a reality check and an objective perspective to the situation. All dreams are not meant to become a “reality.”
That’s just my two cents. And I’m stickin’ to it.:-)
I can agree about putting things in the universe and giving them power.
However, I totally disagree about dreams not meant to become a reality. All dreams are meant to become a reality. The only way peoples dreams do not come true is if they have negative attitudes about them; don’t think they can achieve them; and will not work for them. Like you said, as soon as something is put into the universe, it cannot help but grow. But the reality is, most people are not willing to work for what they want and do not have faith. Faith without works is dead. Faith is the hardest thing to possess for a lot of people because it is very hard to believe in something you cannot see. The amount of faith and work put toward anything is determined by the individual. And, everything happens in God’s time, not ours.
Another thing about dreams. I think the two main hindrances from moving forward are fear of the unknown and a lack of money. First of all, I would encourage people to be afraid, but continue to work anyway. That’s what they do on the job every day. They work in fear because they can get laid off at anytime, so they may as well do the same thing on their own business. As for no money, most people work every day and don’t have a lot of money. So, they might as well start working on their own stuff with a little bit and watch it grow. Oh, and a lot of people don’t have plans. This is essential if they want to make their dreams come true.
As for real friends, many times friends and family members are dream killers. The first two questions are: ‘Why would you want to do that” and “are you sure?” These people will never step out and do anything. If they were going to do it, they would have started. Also, I have found that most people who are working to make their dreams come true will offer assistance, not ask questions.
