BlogHer 2013 was held in Chicago in July, and boy did I feel bad about not blogging. While I felt bad about not promoting my author interview with Toneal Jackson, I was floored because I did not share my blogging conference experience. So, I am sharing it now, before the end of 2013.
Here are my lessons from BlogHer 2013:
- I started using Instagram because of the conference. Right now, I have 14 whopping followers (yep, 5 months later).
- Hashtags (the “#” sign) rock!
- Women bloggers have super creative blog names.
- There were tons of Mommy bloggers. I almost felt left out.
- Social media is crucial to growing your business, your brand and your bottom line.
- I encountered a few shy bloggers, which threw me off, but was not surprising. It takes time to find your voice, and courage to use it.
- Cameras and camcorders on your mobile phone are very convenient but they can never replace traditional photos and videos.
- This conference is perfect for brands who want to market to women and bloggers, but especially mom bloggers.
- Like music, blogging unify people of different races, places and colors.
- Trojan company has vibrators. I didn’t know that; I thought they only sold condoms.
- The vendors at this event were genius…their ideal target audience was all in one place.
- Taking pictures is the easiest way to collect names to build your e-mail list. Actually, that is pure genius. Who’s going to turn down the opportunity to have their pictures mailed to them??
And when I tell you that we ate good every day at BlogHer, I mean WE.ATE. GOOD. Free drinks flowed at every event. Even though I don’t really drink, I thought this was pretty cool. What was even more amazing was the BlogHer Cheeseburger event in the penthouse suite. I missed it because I was at the event in the basement, eating and dancing. However,I did manage to snatch up a CheeseburgHER bag, which is really creative.
