During my blogging break, I had time to reflect on my writing life.
I often say that I am a writer, blogger and author. While these lines are quickly blurring in this digital era, I distinguish between the three for my purposes.
I wanted to clarify this, not only for myself, but for others. Although the spirit of blogging is all upon me, which is shown by my five blogs, my new book, 62 Blog Posts to Overcome Blogger’s Block, and my LinkedIn endorsements.
I need people to understand that I am a writer first. Writing is who I am and what I do; blogs and books are just tools I use to share my stories. Here’s a summary of my reflection.
Marcie the Writer
I’m a gifted writer who
- writes articles for newspapers and magazines
- produces copy for corporations, nonprofit organizations and other business entities
- creates content for online properties, including articles for other sites
I am super creative and I love researching and interviewing. I am confident that I can write a story on nearly any topic. More than anything though, I love making people look good on paper via profile articles and professional bios.
Marcie the Blogger
I lost my mind and started five sites, four of which I manage successfully. Be sure to visit them when you get a chance.
My five sites are:
Marcie Writes is my personal site where I designed myself your writing, blogging and publishing pal. I discuss those topics and more.
Shorty: Your Chicago South Side Resource is my community site where I share information and stories about people, places and events in the community.
Overcoming Blogger’s Block is the author site for my book, 62 Blog Posts to Overcome Blogger’s Block.
Real Skate Stories allows people to share their roller skating stories and memories.
The Write Design Company is my business site, which needs a focus right about now.
Also, I have written guest blog posts for some of the most popular writing and blogging sites, including ProBlogger and Write to Done.
Marcie the Author
To me, an author is someone who has a published book – electronic, print or audio – to their credit. Notice that I didn’t say, “someone who has written a book,” as there are many published books that were not written by the person whose name graces the cover.
My most recent success, 62 Blog Posts to Overcome Blogger’s Block, written and published by yours truly, is available on Kindle. If you don’t have Kindle, you can download it for PC and Mac. In addition, I published two other eBooks, The ABCs of Blogging and The ABCS of Live Blogging.
I’m currently working on getting my blogger’s block book published through a crowdfunding campaign. More details to come. Watch out for more details.
