I found this images while working on a PowerPoint presentation for my presentation at Brainerd Library’s Celebration of Readers this evening. The theme of the event is “To Be Young, Gifted and Black” and my message is “To Make Your Dreams Come True.”
I am excited about this opportunity for two reasons. First, I have incorporated people from Black History which means I get a chance to educate them on this topic. Most kids don’t really want to hear about Black History, which is not really their faults. But I will change that this evening because I’m going to tell them that they cannot eat if they leave.
Second, I made up a janky song and they HAVE to sing it. There’s a song, I’m Different by 2 Chainz, with a catchy beat. The hook of the song says:
I’m different, yeah I’m different
Pull up to the scene with the ceiling missing (this doesn’t make sense, but OK)
Middle finger up to my competition
Here’s my version of the song for the youngsters:
I’m gifted, yeah I’m gifted
Pull up to the scene with my spirits lifted
That’s all I have for now. I can’t think of anything for that last line but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.
How about “I ain’t really worried about ’bout my competition”?
Anyway, I said all of that to say: Dare to Dream…Big. And if you can make it to Brainerd Library tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 1350 W. 89th Street, join me in celebrating young readers.
Also, if you come up with a cool last line, please let me know. Most importantly, dare to dream and dream big.
What are some of your dreams? Do you feel they are in reach?
Great and genius way to get the kids motivated, Marcie! I think you got something going on with that song. Just make it fun:) Congrats to you, as you climb your own ladder to success!
