A few days ago, a web designer asked me if the title of my book was search engine-friendly. Meaning, is it 60 characters or less?
I was in writer mode so I was more concerned about content, formatting and adding value to my readers than SEO. My book went through at least four titles before I was satisfied with my final choice. Ultimately, my audience prevailed.
I have two questions for my fellow authors:
- Do you title your book for search engines or for your audience?
- Would you even think about SEO while writing your book?

Hi Marcie-
I suppose SEO is of grave importance when writing a book, blogging and so forth. It moves traffic, does it not? In ans to your question? I hardly ever think of SEO when in writer mode, moreso the message I’m trying to convey to my readers- I suppose choosing a title for my next project will also be in the best interest of how it relates to my readers.
Peace & blessings,
Clara.
I was wondering how other writers select titles. When I consider titles, I think of my audience. Now, I’m going to blend both value plus SEO. It will definitely be a play on words, but it will be interesting.
