I’ve been off work since March 18th and have been told to stay home through April 30th. Whew. That’s a long time to stay at home. But it sure is a blessing!
People who don’t have to work from home or are not working at all are complaining about being bored; are turning into couch potatoes; and are wasting valuable time doing nothing. Basically, they’re subscribing to this message my friend sent:
On March 17th, when my supervisor told us that we do not have to return to work until the end of the March, here are thoughts that came to mind:
- I can work on my roller skating book project at least four hours a day. It doesn’t have to be four hours in a row; I just have to commit four hours a day.
- I can plan my day the way I want. I can research, workout, cook, clean in any order I please.
- Where’s my goal list for 2020? What can work on while I’m home?
- What kind of fitness plan will I have since the field houses are closed?
- I have time to clean my house. Where do I begin?
And then my supervisor called on March 30th notifying me that, per Governor J.B. Pritzker, we do not have to return to work until April 30th. Whaaaaaatttt? This was me.
Here’s how I’m surviving COVID-19?
- Conducting roller skating research. This part of my project will be done before the end of April.
- Reading books I’ve been wanting to read for months, even years.
- Watching TED Talks and other inspirational messages on YouTube and church services online.
- Working out with specialists on YouTube.
- Learning Spanish on DuoLingo.
- Learning photography from CreativeLive, Udemy and YouTube.
- Saving food pics and recipes on Pinterest.
- Chatting with friends via text message.
- Minimizing the amount of news I watch regarding COVID-19. However, I will research topics I’m interested in, specifically, how did the virus start? There is no definite answer.
- Cleaning my house..
- Online shopping. I’m really trying not to stop but tempting email messages come to my box.
- Walking the track twice a week with Mom. We practice social distancing while working out.
- Hanging out on Twitter. Some of the trending topics are interesting. For instance, Today is Wednesday was trending on Wednesday. A lot of people are losing track of the days of the week.

These are difficult times and you have provided good tips to use this time constructively. Thanks.
Hey Jen! How are you surviving COVID-19?
Baking too much. Eating too much. Praying. Writing. Sipping. 🙂
Love it…I need to start sipping.
Wellll….as I’m blessed to be a full-time artist with my studio in my home, I don’t feel things have changed much. And the hubby is retired and is not a social retiree anyway, so life if not any different for him. LOL.
However, he was going to take me on a big trip for my April 19, 6oth birthday and that is not happening! Hum…oh well. If a big birthday occurred and you were quarantined, can you deny if ever happened? (Thinking tree falling in the wood here. Haha.)
Once thing is for sure, I’m glad you are staying home and staying healthy. My life would be so boring without you. 🙂
Aww, thank you, Lisa. Are you going to have a virtual birthday celebration?
I’m fortunate enough to start my blog before the pandemic happened on a full scale worldwide. During the lockdown, I just focus on writing and publishing every day. It keeps me happy because I have something to work on. Without my blog, I do not know if I can make it through the day.
