When you first start out in the world of freelance, you don’t always know what you’re doing. And that’s not always a bad thing. Sometimes, when you’re new and inexperienced, you’re hungry enough to learn as you go. You’ll try harder, put forth more effort and be up to speed in no time.
Unfortunately, you may not have a plan or be aware of the best way to grow and find success. But if you’re going to earn an income from writing, you have to change your mindset and believe you can earn more. To do this, you have to remove the toxic mindset of “not being able to” or thinking you can earn a set amount. Let’s take a look at some of the things that may help you to increase your freelance income.
Mindset
To earn more from your writing, you have to change your mindset. Know that you deserve and desire what you’re asking and believe it.
Self-Confidence
Do you question your abilities as a writer? Are you self-conscious about your work or think others will think you suck? Well, you need to start believing in yourself more and building up your self-confidence. The higher your self-confidence, the more you’ll earn.
Experience
Sometimes, you’ll allow the lack of experience to hold you back from charging more. Don’t do it. Consider increasing the number of paying assignments and getting more impressive clips to gain that experience and then inevitably earn more.
Productivity
Your productivity, or the lack thereof, may stop you from earning as much as you like. If you are a procrastinator or underprice projects because you’re not sure how long it will take to complete, then you should work on changing your levels of productivity.
Effort
As much as you may not want to admit it, you may not be putting forth the amount of effort needed to complete projects in a timely manner to earn more. Make sure you have a writer website that showcases what you can do. Send out as many query letters as possible. And actually aim to earn more.
Professionalism
How you present yourself could also be holding you back. Sometimes, you don’t have the best professional appearance and it can tie into your confidence in your abilities. You can easily remedy this with branding – or rebranding your image.
Goals
Finally, having no goals could be holding you back. When it comes to building your career and earning more money, you need to be intentional. Without goals, you have no direction. To get on the right track, first write down your goals. Then work through steps to achieve them.
Goals act like motivation to help you to get results. So, ask yourself: what do you want to achieve? Answer that question and go from there.
