When I tell people I’m a blogger, one of the first questions they ask is, “What do you write?”
While it is true that writing was the crux of blogging in the beginning, blogging has changed the face of media on so many levels. No longer is text the main form of content; bloggers are using video, audio and images to share their messages.
Also, the scope of our duties has grown beyond creating and curating content. We perform at least 10 different responsibilities, usually three at a time, when managing our sites. Continue reading to learn more about the 10 jobs of bloggers.
The 10 Jobs of Bloggers – Part I
Journalist
Most people start blogs to educate their audiences on topics that are important to them. To do this, they must possess storytelling and good writing skills. They must also be deadline driven; add unique perspectives to stories through research and interviews; and quote their sources and credit others for their work.
Researcher
Although research is not required for all blog posts, all bloggers do it at some point. This is necessary to let people know the source of information; to provide more detailed information on a topic; and to add their knowledge to the topic.
There are two types of research: primary and secondary. Primary is first-hand information gathered through interviews; information from newspapers, journals and other sources are secondary.
Marketer
There are two main marketing roles undertaken by bloggers: branding and promotion. Branding means you are creating how you want people to perceive you and your blog. As for promotion, you need to continuously promote your name, projects and successes so people will know who you are.
Both are easily done using social media – as long as you’re consistent – for little or no cost. Do not overlook traditional promotional methods like press releases, radio and TV appearances, and ads and articles on relevant sites and publications for spreading the word about your business.
Photographer
Photos add life to your stories. You can find images online or take your own. Although looking for relevant images does not make you a photographer, it makes you more aware of visuals that will add impact to your blog posts.
Internet Marketer
Many people start blogs as a hobby and later decide to profit from their efforts. When you start profiting from your blog, you become an internet marketer.
Income options include, but are not limited to: advertisements, affiliate marketing, and selling your own products.
Wrapping Up
Above are just five of the 10 jobs of bloggers. Come back next week for part two of the article.
What About You?
How many of these responsibilities do you perform as a blogger?
Hmm! Honestly Marcie, you rocked out the point. We bloggers really do all of that but the problem is that, not everyone believe what bloggers really are due to the fact that scammers are bringing in bad reputation to disturb the atmosphere that already existed for us to work on the listed positions you listed above.
Part of my list still goes as * Graphic designer * Product & Service survey personnel * Speaker & business strategist
Hey Sunday, you are right. You should write a continuation post of this one.
Hmm! I Will definitely follow your lead soon. I’m gonna be busy this week working on my new blog (www.ngfind.com). I will need a review from you on this one. Kindly review and inform me please
I checked out your site but not sure quite how to review it. What is the site about? It’s not clear.
