I took a blogcation in July and I’m pumped and ready to get going again. Even though I wasn’t blogging, I was still working my writing life.
Following are my projects during my blogcation.
Freelance Writing Niche
After months of agonizing over a freelance writing niche, I decided to write user manuals and articles for software and app development companies. I can also help train their clients. If you have relationships with decision makers that hire and pay freelancers, please introduce me.
Brand Partnerships
I’ve been contacting brands for partnerships. It’s been encouraging. Two companies are waiting for my blog media kit, which is being worked on.
The key to getting more responses: follow up. My response rates increased when I did this. I actually spoke to people.
Connections from WordPress Meetup
I attended a WordPress Meetup and connected with four people, three of which are writers.
What was interesting about the people I met were they actually kept in touch. I’m connected with three of them on LinkedIn and I speak to two of them regularly.
In fact, one guy is an online marketer and is going to teach me how to earn more money from my books and online properties.
Marcie Writes
I tweaked this site based on tips from John Paul Aguiar. I have a couple more things to do and it’ll be done.
Professional Bios
Bio business has doubled. I’m getting three to four inquires a month from people who found me online. This is a blessing. Two recent clients were executives with European connections and expensive hobbies. Do you personally know anyone who collects Porsches?
Courses and Trainings
I’ve been thinking about online and in-person courses and trainings I can offer to help others on their writing and blogging journeys. The online marketer I met is going to help me develop systems to plan, promote and profit from my products and services.
While I’m on the topic of training, please let me know if you see any of the following opportunities:
- Businesses that offer lunch and learns to their employees;
- Business or community groups that would like to offer blogging, social media or professional bio trainings to their members; and
- Venues in any city that have free community rooms or low cost training facilities that allow you to charge attendees. They have to have free parking. You can’t charge for workshops at most public libraries.
All leads are appreciated.
Other Projects
In addition to the writing stuff, I was learning more about Hootsuite, email marketing and photography. I drafted my children’s book, which needs a major overhaul. And I interviewed a young lady who makes black dolls in Africa. The sound on our interview was bad, which is why it hasn’t been posted on my YouTube channel yet.
