I had the pleasure of interviewing Asadah Kirkland, author and founder of Soulful Chicago Book Fair, for the Chicago Independent Bulletin newspaper.
To show how small world world really is, Asadah and I met in the Photoshop class at Blue 1647 last year and we bonded over rides home after class. I think I still have the flyer about the fair she gave us in class.
Soulful Chicago Book Fair is the first outdoor African American literary festival in Chicago, and possibly the nation, which is news in itself. I hope it becomes a model for other African American book fairs all over the world. Most importantly, I hope it encourages black people to tell their stories using all forms of media.
