Chicago Roller Skating History Presentation

I am proud to say that my Chicago Roller Skating History presentation went very well on Tuesday.

I want to thank Sarah Vessalo from the Park Ridge Library for inviting me; the Chicago Writers Association for their speakers bureau; my mother for joining me; and Trinity Dishmon from the YWCA Francis Center for supporting me and taking pictures. I definitely have to thank Alijah Villian for suggesting to include Chicago Roller Skating as one of my topics for the Speakers Bureau.

Roller RInks in ChicagoMost importantly, I really want to thank the 25 attendees of my presentation. There were some hard core skaters in that audience. It was great!

Many of them skated at several rinks. One skater, Ms. Bemis, had on a roller skating t-shirt that listed many rinks in this city, which was really cool. You know I’m going to interview her, right?

Of course, there were a few mishaps that occurred, which I’m going to correct ASAP.

Mishap #1: I had an inconsistent microphone which made it difficult to hear me.

Solution: I am going to purchase my own portable microphone system to ensure my audience can hear me throughout the entire presentation, regardless of the size of the room.

Mishap #2: The roller skating video clips in my presentation did not play properly. I didn’t have control over this because of the equipment I was using. And they were so cool, too.

Solution: There are possible two solutions for this. First, purchase and use my own equipment. Or two, have videos on my computer and play them separately.

Mishap #3: The presenter view in PowerPoint was not on an option on the version I was using.

Solution: Print out my notes and have them with me, which I did. I’m actually going to print them on index cards so I won’t have to flip pages.

Ms. Bemis gifted me with the little roller skate on the left. Overall, it was a great presentation and a great experience. I’m looking forward to future presentations and completing my roller skating book.

Thanks, Clara. Being a paid speaker has been on my list of income streams for years and it’s finally happening. What I love most about my presentation is hat I have a lot of information that most people don’t…it feels great to be first. Now I have to finish this book.
