I’ve been a member of Chicago Writers Association for several years now and it’s a pretty cool organization. You will find freelance writers, authors in all genres and other creative writers in this organization. And membership is only $25 a year.
Although it’s a virtual writing group, there are several in-person events held throughout the year. Also, they have a Facebook group and exclusive Yahoo group for members. Both groups are very supportive.
Also, this group is pretty entrenched in Chicago’s literary community, which is great.
The two services they offer that I appreciate most are the Windy City Reviews and the Speakers Bureau. I’ve reviewed two nonfiction books thus far. And what was truly humbling about those experience was that I was chosen by those authors to read their books (I hope they liked it).
This was my first year taking participating in the CWA’s Speakers Bureau. I don’t how many authors are hired, but this is low-cost publicity for writers in the organization. But for those who are hired, it’s a great opportunity for visibility and pay.
Okay, I’m going to stop here so you can hop on over to Chicago Writers Association to join. If you have any questions, I’m more than happy to share my experience. If you want to talk to other members, join the Facebook page and I’m sure your questions will be answered.
