Everyone appreciates humor. Sometimes it’ll makes you laugh; other times it’ll make you groan. You may get the punch line of a joke immediately, or you may take you a while to “get it.” Wherever you land on the humor spectrum, you can always include it on your site. This can be done by creating your own; borrowing from other sites (with permission); or simply making a list of your favorite humor sites. Following are 4 types of humor posts you can to your site.
4 Ways to add humor to your blog
1. Just Plain’ Ol Funny
This is the most appreciated because some people are just naturally funny, and they can make almost any topic humorous with little effort. These people tend to have the gift of funny; they may have a quick wit; or they put an unexpected twist on normal conversations. Here’s a joke from my friend, Demond.
One day my we were going to lunch when we worked together. He came over to my cubicle and said, “We have to hurry up and get to the restaurant.” I started rushing to clean off my desk so we could go because I thought they were about to close. While I was straightening up my workspace, I asked him, “What’s the hurry?” He said….
“They said they are about to run out of booster seats and I want to make sure you get one.”
2. Jokes
In my opinion, there are very few gifted joke writers and there are even fewer people who can deliver them effectively. If you are one of these people, I have the highest regard for you. If you are not, you can try your hand at writing jokes, or you can borrow from different websites, social media sites or video sites.
Here’s a joke from one of my Facebook Friends, Diamand NdaRuff. She’s naturally funny, but this was a good joke. Ok, I thought it was hilarious, but I could be a little goofy.
3. Comics
Comic strips are no longer just for special sections in the newspaper. They come in different flavors that everyone can relate to – family, work, political, and life. Add a pleasant distraction to your site in the form of a comic. Check out one of my favorite comics.
4. Parody
Parody is the art of mock something or someone or being satirical. You can often find political figures and celebrities the subjects of both. In the past, this form of humor was limited to print. Today, YouTube is flooded with these types of videos, but the creative minds behind JibJab have created a name for themselves with political satire. But here is a video titled, What We Call The News.
Above are just 4 ways you can add humor to your blog. You will find these types and more in my upcoming book, 62 Posts to Overcome Blogger’s Block. Do you include humor on your site? Let us know by sharing the link to your site in the comment section below.
Hi Marcie
You have mentioned awesome tips here to add humor to our blog, but you didn’t make it clear the benefits of adding humor to our blog?
The main benefit of adding humor to your blog is personality. Most of the sites I visit are more serious in tone because the owners are trying to brand themselves as experts in their respected areas, however, they forget that personality is part of branding. This draws your audience closer to you because they are seeing a different side of you. And everyone likes to laugh so it is definitely a pleasant addition to your audience.
Hi Marcie,
Enjoyed these:) I have a few budding humorists in my family and they are cut ups! I love adding a slight satirical slant to my work, it breaks the tension the serious writing sometimes invoke.
Clara.
P.S. Since when do folks ask permission?:)
Clara, thanks for stopping through and sharing!
People don’t really ask for permission. I just said that to try to push proper protocol. 🙂
Hi Marcie,
I find when I’m writing I naturally seem to insert my own humour into my content. It’s just something I do because that’s just the way I think.
I do feel when people publish a post it should contain personality and humour, were not writing essay and wont loose marks – That’s what my teacher said.
Simmeon, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think if people think funny, they can write funny. Or, at least be creative enough to seek out funny stuff to share.
